Ever heard of Bansky? He’s probably one of the most famous (anonymous) graffiti artists. His subversive images are all over the world, even if most of his production is in England, his country of origin.
Bansky uses the technique of stencil graffiti, which is one of the many types of graffiti. It consists in using “paper , cardboard, or other media to create an image or text that is easily reproducible. The desired design is cut out of the selected medium and then the image is transferred to a surface through the use of spray paint or roll-on paint.” (Wikipedia)
In 2005 Bansky ventured into the West Bank to daub a small section of the 450 mile long barrier that separates Israel from the Palestinian territories with 9 stencilled pictures. Israel sees the barrier as a security wall against suicide attacks, but the UN has declared it illegal.

What is your impression of the pictures? Do you find them effective? More in general, what do you think of graffiti art?
If you have pictures of graffiti art that you like, post them here.
It depends on what the graffiti depict!
ReplyDeleteIf are signatures that are horrendous, these damage buildings, shutters of shops, newly renovated playground, and so...absolutely NO!I think that are Vandalism!
If are graffiti, that decorated the walls that are only gray, and depict beautiful drawings, then I think that can rejoice all the walls gray.
i think it depends on what graffiti represents and where they are drawn, if they ruin a monument or an important part of the city and have no meaning, like signatures or stupid sentences, i consider them vandalism acts!
ReplyDeletebut if they're made on a free surface and they have a meaning and make beautiful the city they are art to me! :)
i really like Banksy's graffitis they give life to the gray walls and express his thoughts and feelings about the society and what happens he can be called an ARTIST! :)

I think they are wonderful! I love them and I consider them as one of the most beutiful and creative forms of art! :) but I don't like writings that people made for protest.
ReplyDeleteI like both the images but maybe the second is more realistic, i mean, it seems that the window is not only a picture, it is more like a real window that shows the landscape! :) and I also like the contrast that the artist made making the picture both black and white and coloured! :)

In my opinion graffiti can be consider artworks but when they are made on trains, monuments, buildings are vandalism acts!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the cities, to solve the problem of the vandalism graffitis, can made areas, in some grey districts or in suburbs that are a little bit abandoned, where it is allowed made graffitis! and to put more colours in the world! =)

I think there are two tipes of graffitis:
ReplyDeletethe first one made by artists, so people who know what they are doing; they paint pictures or write something that then is wonderful and which adds some colours to a grey city; I like this type of graffitis and think that the state should give some space to this artists to do them: there are so many sad areas in the cities which would be really better with them!
On the other hand there are horrible writings, made by people who don't know how to do them and who just write something, usually to protest...I don't like them and I think people should think twice before ruining in this way building which don't belong to them!
However, I like Bansky's graffitis: he is an artist!:)

I find Bansky's graffiti really beatiful because they show people what ther is on the other side of the wall.
ReplyDeleteIn general I like paintings but not when they ruin importan areas or munuments.
Graffiti sholud be well made because I supose thet people don't like having scribbles on walls.
But I think that graffiti can coluor our grey cities too (like Mariagiulia said ^^). In addition they can express the creativity of joung people.

I think that graffitis are a form of art, of course it depens on the type of grffitis. If they are offensive or vulgar or if they ruin an important monument, i don't like them and perhaps other people don't like them too. For example I love Bansky's graffitis, they are beautiful and they mean something, something important.
ReplyDeleteI want to upload some photos but I don't know how to do it :(
